Alright Guys, I would like to ask for some help as well. I have a similar problem with my truck.
My drivers side window went out as well. So first thing is I check the fuse. This would be Fuse 7 (5A) under the dash. That is good (obviously because I can roll down the other 3 windows). Then I check the relay (Relay 4). The relay is fine (Got a spare now I guess). Then I check every other fuse. All good.
Next I go to the power distribution box. I check fuse 25 (30A Circuit Breaker). That is fine. Now, Im really stumped. I'm thing 'oh crap' its a short somewhere because the relay is clicking over when I try to roll up my drivers window. I give up.....
After work today, I decide to jump back in the project. I take the drivers door apart. Clean all the connections to the switched. Throw a volt meter on it. The switch is working fine. Throwing current when I click up or down.... So, I take it one step further.... I go down to check the motor itself... Motor is fine cause I just hot wired it to my camper battery and it goes up and down fine. Now Im like ok... Connection. See picture.
No Im checking wires with my volt meter. I make it down to the connection that comes out of the wireing harness up to the window motor.
There is a white and black wire, and an Orange and black wire to this connection coming out of the wiring harness. What confuses me is that there is a white and black wire hooked up to switch. See below, but it is Left Front Window UP, which connects the window switch to the motor. Orange and blue wire is left front down at the switch, but the connection at the motor is orange and black. Now Im really confused!!!!
So I take my volt meter and check the 2 wires at the connection to the window motor. First, window up, white and black, it works. Then i check window down, thinking maybe orange and black looks like orange and light blue after 11 years. No Dice!!! Something is up with that orange and black wire at the connection in the door. No power is going to the motor when I want to roll my window down, but it will go up.
I cut away some of the covering, and it is looking like the orange and black wire heads into the cab, and not up to the switch. Im confused now! PLEASE HELP!!!!!! This is driving me NUTS!
I hope this all helps, it got dark so I had to quit, or I woulda chased wires a bit longer, and to throw another kink in it, I busted out my hayes manual for the 99-02 superdutys, and the wiring diagram on page 12-25 (Instrument and switch illumination) diagram make sense!
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks in advance!
Paul
PS, Heres the truck! :dunno:
